Why is the shade created by the dealer and not in the factory?
Our Automated Colour Tinting (ACT) technology allows us to create a vast variety of shades. These shades are made by mixing direct or basic shades in differing proportions. For tinting these shades, the authorized dealer opens the paint can and tints it before giving it to you. To assure quality, our dealers are instructed to show you the sealed tins before they open it and use it for tinting.
Why are darker shades more expensive?
Dark shades are more expensive because they are created by adding more pigments (mostly organic) to the base colour to get the required shade. More pigments mean greater cost.
How do I apply for a job at Basco Products?
Please upload your CV at the careers page on this website. The HR department will get in touch with you if there is a relevant opening.
Why is Low VOC important?
VOCs or Volatile Organic Compounds are substances within paint that give off harmful emissions. These emissions continue long after the paint has dried. They have a strong odour, and cause a variety of health problems such as headaches, dizziness, asthma and allergies. They are also linked to cancer. Select a Low VOC finish so that your family and your children are not exposed to harm.
Why is surface preparation important?
For paint to adhere well, to perform over time and display all its characteristics, the substrate must first be prepared properly. Surface dirt will prevent the paint film from adhering to the substrate and will peel off faster. If fungus is not removed, new growths could appear even on the newly painted film. Flaking paint will also reduce the new paints ability to adhere.
The smoother the surface, the better the finish and performance. Fill all holes and sand surfaces to create an even surface for the paint.

Can I wipe painted walls with water to clean them?
Our new generation paints have excellent washability characteristics. This means you can wipe them with mild detergent and water to remove stains, without affecting the colour or the finish of the paint. Most beverage, food and dirt stains, and some chemical patches can be removed in this manner. Washability characteristics differ from paint to paint so check the technical features to understand what performance you can expect.
What safety precautions must be followed while painting?
Store your paints in cool dry conditions. Ensure there is adequate ventilation during application. Wear overalls, goggles, dust masks and gloves and avoid all contact with skin and eyes.
How do I choose the right colours for my home?
The colours you choose will depend on your personal tastes and preferences. Colours are intricately linked with mood, and can elevate or depress your spirits. For rooms that require rest and repose, opt for cooler colours from the blue, green and lavender families. Pastels will work very well in such spaces, while dark colours may be overwhelming and depressing. For rooms that are about energy and vitality, such as living rooms, family rooms or home offices, try warm colours from the red, orange and yellow families. Mild warm shades such as peach and lemon yellow create happy atmospheres. Of course, vibrant colours must be used carefully; try to restrict them to feature walls or décor accents such as furnishings or art. For smaller, darker spaces, use light colours to liven them up and create an illusion of space. Using neutral colours also helps you play off your prized objects.
How do I hide imperfections in a wall?
Smooth the wall before applying your chosen top coat or paint system, with DuraCoat External & Internal Skim Coat
How do we prevent brush marks on the wall?
Brush marks are usually caused by improper paint dilution, worn out brush bristles or poor application techniques. Experienced painters do not face this issue. Check if the issue is caused by one of the reasons mentioned.
Why is it important to carry out paint thinning correctly?
Thin paint as recommended by the manufacturer. Both overly thinned or insufficiently thinned paint will not perform as indicated. Some products can be used without thinning, others require varying degrees of thinning. Make sure you use the recommended thinner and ratio at all times.
Why is it important to use the right tools?
The recommended tools vary from product to product. Depending on the surface, consistency of finish or type of look required, you will have to use brush, roller or spray as recommended. For more porous substrates roller or brush is ideal. Fully solid floor screeds are laid on with trowels. Whereas for decorative indoor finishes, there are specific tools instrumental to creating the look. Do pick the right tool to ensure the right finish.
How do I decide how much paint to buy?
Use our paint calculator feature to figure out the amount of paint needed for your project. This varies significantly depending on the surface, finish and type of paint. Rough and textured surfaces will provide less coverage.
Why do colours on my computer screen look different from the physical shade
Monitors and printers may be calibrated differently leading to differences in colour. When in doubt, refer to a physical shade card from Basco Paints available at nearest dealer counters, DuraCoat Home Solution showrooms or at our depots across Kenya
What is the role of primer when painting?
Primer paint is the preliminary layer of coating that is applied on the materials prior to painting. It ensures that the paint adhesion to the surface is proper, enhances the durability of paint, and imparts extra safety to the surface being painted. Primer also seals pores in permeable materials, and averts bleeding from knots. If suitably applied, primers will enhance the life of the paint, and also improve the appearance.
